Cats and Dogs

The dog ate the cat.
The cat wasn't too happy
Too late for the cat!

As I gaze upon my child

Last night I was looking at Sam as he was eating his dinner. He was silent (which makes a change!) He had his Boys' Brigade uniform on and it was just me and him. There aren't many times when I remember to stop and smell the roses (or in this case just look at one of my children)

As I gaze upon my child,
Sitting,
Eating,

I am filled with love and awe,
Beauty,
Sweetness,

As I gaze upon my child,
Playing,
Creating

I am filled with love and awe,
Creative,
Pleasure,

There are times in life it’s true
When they’ve torn my heart in two,
There are times in life it’s true,
When I regret what they do.

I do not have God’s patience,
Lacking,
Wanting,

Yet I know God’s love for me,
Parental,
Eternal.

Did the devil teach me to love?
These feelings are from above.
It is only through my children
That I have learnt the love of heaven.

The Story of Sammy the Cell

I wrote this 20 Feb 2003 for a daily devotional.

Sammy was a cell living in a tree. He was not one of those "Out on the edge" kind of cells. No he was a nice and comfortable in the middle kind of cell. However, poor old Sammy didn't feel right. he couldn't put his finger on it (or whatever cells have for fingers!) but ever since he had been divided, he felt that things were moving in the wrong direction.

Sure all the other cells were growing and dividing in the same direction, but he wasn't comfortable with it. He thought it was probably him and tried to fit in, but he couldn't. He tried to persuade all the cells around him to change direction, but that just brought more rejection. Sammy could not help it, he just grew and divided against the grain. "Not another splinter group" the other cells complained. The friction that Sammy was causing was becoming a bit of a knotty problem.

Eventually, Sammy's growth actually broke through the surface and took on a whole new direction. He had started to branch out on his own. After many years people came to that tree to pick its fruit. But they never picked fruit from the trunk they picked it from Sammy's and all the other branches. I wonder if Sammy ever appreciated what he started?

The start of heaven

This one came to me when a I was told I could no longer see a friend. It was a bit of a David and Johnathan thing!

Yesterday, I died.
Yesterday, I cried.
Yesterday, I was in pain,
But today, I am risen again.

Yesterday, I was there,
But today, I am here.
Yesterday, you beheld my body,
But today, I give you my spirit.

Yesterday, you heard my voice,
But today, you have my thoughts.
I am still here.
I have not left.

The only thing that has changed is the way we talk.

Yesterday, you died.
Yesterday, you cried,
Yesterday, you were in pain,
But today, you are risen again.

Now we two are joined through death and life,
We two are joined in spirit.
You have my thoughts,
And I can hear yours.

Yesterday, was the end of the World,
But today,
is the start of Heaven.

The Rancher

This one came to me after reading a few Ogden Nash short poems.

See the rancher survey his property
On his horse, clipperty, clopperty.
